Interior Design Trends For 2022

Whether you are just starting to remodel a room or are planning to build an entire new home, the interior design trends of 2022 will be sure to have your home looking modern, fresh, and chic! As you will see, these trends are heavily influenced by lifestyle changes during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. The trends of 2022 are also influenced by societal shifts to be more environmentally conscious. So, what’s in style for 2022?

Colors

For 21 years Pantone has been deeming a “color of the year,” but for the first time ever, Pantone developed a new color for the annual color of the year. Very Peri combines soothing blue hues with the warm energy of red, for a soft periwinkle shade that stimulates curiosity and creativity. With the exception of Very Peri, color trends for 2022 include an array of Earth tones. To combat the anxieties of 2020 and 2021, natural tones create a friendly and peaceful atmosphere. If you are trying to decide what color(s) of paint to buy, check out the “Color of the Year 2022” from Benjamin Moore and Sherwin-Williams. Choosing popular shades of green, white, tan, brown, and grey will help you select everything from the wall paint to the furniture while keeping a soothing, complementary color palette.

Furniture

Design trends for 2022 are all about combining vintage and modern styles. Along with record players, curved furniture has made a huge comeback from its peak popularity in the 60s and 70s. Last year Americans alone spent more than $17 billion on secondhand furniture! Antique/vintage furniture and decor are expected to continue gaining popularity as supply chain disruptions persist and the obligation to sustainability increases. While many opt for preowned, refurbished furniture, there is nothing quite like new if you are willing to wait. Modern couches, chairs, tables, and bed frames are following 1960s and 70s styles while incorporating new soft colors and much more comfortable materials.

You can also expect to see a lot more faux fur, fringe, and decorative trims throughout 2022. These small details add to a layered texture look which makes the style appear relaxed and organized. Even with a more eclectic style, designing your space in layers will add class and character to the room. Layering a room can be as simple as adding an aerial rug or having your couch away from the wall. Experiment with moving your furniture around to add depth and style to your home.

Decor

Earth tones and vintage styles also come into play with decor trends for 2022. As we have all been spending more time at home over the past couple of years, your home should be calming and inspiring. More simplistic wall art and large, geometric light fixtures have gained popularity. And compared to just a couple of herbs in the windowsill, house plants are taking over. Multitiered plant stands full of greenery can add a lively and natural vibe to your home while adding to a layered look and tying together earth tones from your walls and furniture.

If you are one of many who welcomed a new family member during the COVID-19 pandemic, a tower of plants might be out of the question. But don’t worry, there are plenty of pet-friendly home furnishings in 2022. From faux fur doggy beds to cactus-shaped cat scratching posts, you’re bound to find the perfect decor for your home and lifestyle.
